Dervish Hat
Isfahan or Kerman, Iran
Early 20th C.
Terme Wool Brocade
6.5'' W x 8'' W x 7'' L
$2,195

This brocaded dervish hat is believed to have originated in either Isfahan or Kerman. Made from Terme, a wool fabric with brocading, it boasts a rich color palette featuring aubergine, red, apricot, light blue, and gray. The hand-loomed fabric is crafted in either Kerman or Yazd and is composed of four distinct sections known as 'terks.' These sections are quilted with narrow ribs onto a concealed backing cloth and are then lap-seamed together, featuring botanical motifs in their design.
